Our Pre-School

Our qualified practitioners provide stimulating and exciting resources to enhance children’s learning through their play experiences. We provide a wide range of specially chosen toys, play and craft equipment for both indoors and outside play. Key Practitioners have a sound knowledge of their key children’s interests and use this information to inform their planning. We provide lots of other experiences for the children also including - singing, reading, puzzles, role play and small world.

We are fortunate to have an amazing outdoor area with specialist play equipment which includes a large sand pit, large construction area and role play zones, a mud kitchen and water play area. We have use of the school playground for bikes and scooters and beautiful allotment area for gardening opportunities.

Our pre-school is on the same site as as Milford-on-Sea Primary School which has allowed us to build great relationships with the staff and children. This allows us to make the transition from pre-school to Milford Primary School as smooth as possible.

We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which has the child’s future and best interests at it’s core. Our daily and weekly planning is structured by the four guiding principles for early years settings which are as follows:

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured

  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships

  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers

  • Importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates, including children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). - ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2023’

We deliver the EYFS curriculum in holistic, stimulating and immersive way, always leading from the children’s interests whilst covering the seven areas of learning and development. This is made up of the prime areas -communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development and the specific areas - literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

We share the children’s learning with our parents via observations on Tapestry and a fortnightly newsletter which is sent home with the children and is also now available in our private blog area on our website.

We promote healthy eating and provide a healthy snack during a morning and afternoon session with a choice of milk or water.

New Government funding for 2 year olds

If your child turns two on or before 31st March and you are an eligible working parent in England, you can apply for up to 15 hours childcare or early education per week, over 38 weeks of the year.

The deadline to apply is 31st March. We recommend you do so by the end of February to get your childcare code in good time. You will then need to provide us with the code in order for us to apply for the funding on your behalf.

You can apply for the funding using this link Apply for free childcare if you're working - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If you are unsure of what funding you are eligible for then you can use this link from the government website Check what help you could get with childcare costs - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

“Our tasty, freshly cooked, nutritious dishes help your children flourish and reach their potential. As part of a balanced diet, our lunches provide a third of a child’s daily calorie intake, to aid concentration levels and give them energy to focus and to play.” - HC3S

Our hot meals are provided by the Hampshire School Catering Service HC3S. The meals are prepared in the school kitchen and we collect them at lunchtime in thermal boxes to ensure the children’s meal are kept warm and fresh. HC3S provide us with three nutritious and varied menus which rotate every week. You can view these menus by clicking the image below…

If your child has any allergies you will be required to complete a detailed form provided by HC3S. Your child’s meal will be prepared under strict guidance according to their needs. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please email us at milfordpreschool@aol.com

Ordering hot meals

At the end of each month you will be given a menu selection form for the following month. You can select the meals you would like your child to have each week. This will then be charged to your monthly invoice and payable at the same time as your monthly fees. Orders must be received in the time frame given or your child will not receive hot meals for that month.

Payment

Unfortunately unlike at school, children aged under 4 are not eligible for free school meals. However if you are in receipt of pupil premium funding then we would be happy to use some of this to pay for your pre-school meals. Please speak to the business manager regarding this.
